This month our school received two of our Finnish warriors , from Prof.Lemos Jr’s Gracie Barra Finland.

Markku Tapiola and Janne Sinersaari arrived on the 18th of August  in Chicago area after two weeks of intensive training in the Gracie Barra head quarters ,Irvine CA.

The crew lead by Markku a purple belt 3rd degree under Prof.Lemos Jr were impressed by our training level and the set up offered in Countryside, they spent two weeks living the ” Gracie Life” staying in one of our ” fighters apartments” right above the gym!

According to them they had a great time and promissed to comeback on next year.

Their trip was crowned by Janne’’s graduation who received from Prof.Lemos Jr’s hands his well deserved blue belt.

Our club is proud to announce the competition results for the Corral Combat Classic in Gary, Indiana on July 31st. This was a smaller tournament, and with the Chicago International Open coming up on August 22nd only a few of our competition team members elected to participate. Jon Tutaj had an outstanding performance, he placed first in his weight class in the advanced no-gi division, winning first place by submission; he also placed second in purple belt gi absolute, defeating three opponents by submission and losing first to a heavier opponent by points. Matt Pena had another excellent performance in the teen division, totaling six wins and three losses at the event. Kyle Comstock showed excellent heart and technique in the white belt divisions with some good hard fights with narrow losses. Kevin Leung lost his fight in his blue belt division, though he almost won as he opened with an outstanding flying armbar that almost ended the fight. Kamran Khakbaz lost his fight in the white belt division but displayed great heart as well. We are as always proud of our competitors and know that all of them will continue to train, learn, and emerge victorious in future competitions.

We would also like to thank our members who came with the team to show their support: thanks to Lauren D’Adamo and Nik Rikita-Tutaj for their photography and video-recording (we will have a highlight video from the C3 event online soon), Lisa and Brianne Workman, Laura and Alex Gomez, Carlos Lopez and Bret and Epiphany Stalcup. Special thanks go out to our coaches Professors Carlos Lemos Jr. and Pablo Ortega for their excellent matside coaching and advice.
